It’s not often that the romances and lives and vibes and ups and downs of one city can be all squashed and squeezed together and portrayed in just one feature film. Until now… In 2006, award-winning international hit Paris, je t’aime was released worldwide, featuring vignettes from an ecclectic mix of directors and starring…pretty much…everyone. Veteran Dépardieu plays a café owner and also hosts a director’s slot in this 120 minute anthology film; lovable Elijah Wood plays an American tourist who gets bitten by a beautiful vampire, and Maria Full of Grace star Catalina Sandino Moreno portrays a Latin American struggling mother. Paris, je t’aime feeds our souls with 20 shorts until we have truely realised the essence of this city of love. Paris, je t’aime has a certain…je ne sais quoi, and this will hopefully remain the same for the next in the Cities of Love series, New York, I love you. All we, or I, know, is that the cast is bigger and better than before, with critics giving raving reviews, and not so raving reviews, and a directing debut from Scarlett Johansson. Unfortunately for us Brits, we will never know, that is until the film is released on DVD in February next year and we are forced to watch it on our mere TV screens on a Friday night in. New York, I love you, will not be released in the UK, but lucky cinema-goers in USA, Spain, Holland, and even South Korea to name a few, will get the opportunity to see this second anthology on the big screen.
